Statement from MSG: 'We must explain the extent of labor theft to the public'

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Musical Work Owners Group Professional Union (MSG) has announced its vision and goals for the new term.

The organization is taking action to reach wider audiences with the work it has carried out in many different areas to ensure music professionals receive their rights.

In this journey to gain public support, MSG first met with journalists and music critics.

The press event was attended by MSG Board Chairman Ferhat Göçer, Vice Chairman Zeynep Talu, Board Member in Charge of Corporate Communications Aslı Gökyokuş, and Board Member in Charge of International Relations Birol Namoğlu.

In his address to journalists, MSG Board Chairman Ferhat Göçer said, “Your support is crucial for us to explain the extent of labor theft to the public. This issue is not just for the creators, but for all of Turkey. We have no doubt that music listeners will stand with us once they are informed and made aware.”

MSG Board representatives also provided information at the meeting regarding positive developments in 2023:

"In 2023, MSG distributed over 260 million TL in royalties to its members. This figure represents a 93 percent increase compared to the previous year. There have also been promising developments recently regarding the collection of royalties from public commercial venues, which has been a priority issue that MSG has been fighting for a long time.

Thanks to a circular issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2023, it has become mandatory for all accommodation facilities in the country to obtain a music license certificate. It was decided to establish two separate federations to carry out the licensing. As MSG, we established the Music Sector Work Owners Federation (MSF) together with MESAM. MSF manages the processes related to issuing music license certificates to accommodation facilities in coordination with MÜZFED."
