The production won the grand prize in the festival's international competition, being named 'Best Film'.
While announcing the grand prize, the festival jury spoke of the film 'Yurt' with the following words:
"We are awarding the Jury Grand Prize to a film made with rare sensitivity. To a film that impressed us with its rich form and unique beauty... Beyond its visuals, to a film where we could find the power of its sincere writing in a political and cultural context that never detaches from its universal content..."
'Yurt', which stars Doğa Karakaş, Can Bartu Arslan, and Ozan Çelik, will also be released in theaters in France in the coming months.
PLOT OF THE FILM YURT
'Yurt' focuses on Ahmet, a fourteen-year-old high school preparatory student living in a religious dormitory.
The film, which deals with Ahmet's struggle to meet the expectations of his father, who has recently turned to religion, his feeling of being trapped between school and the dormitory, and his fight for freedom, tells a coming-of-age story set in the atmosphere of political polarization in late 90s Turkey.
