1-day national mourning declared in Azerbaijan
A 1-day national mourning has been declared in Azerbaijan following the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane near Aktau, Kazakhstan.
An Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane has crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. The bodies of 35 people have been recovered from the plane, which was carrying a total of 67 people, including a 5-member crew and 62 passengers. 37 people have been taken under treatment.
Following the accident, a 1-day national mourning has been declared in Azerbaijan.
In a statement issued by the Azerbaijani Presidency, it was stated that President Ilham Aliyev has declared a 1-day national mourning for tomorrow due to the plane crash.
It was also reported that Aliyev has decided to establish a commission chaired by Prime Minister Ali Asadov to investigate the cause of the accident.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Embraer 190 type aircraft belonging to AZAL, which was on a Baku-Grozny flight, crashed near Aktau.
In a statement made by AZAL, it was stated that there were a total of 67 people on the plane, including a 5-member crew and 62 passengers.
Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office official Kenan Zeynalov announced that, according to initial findings, 32 people survived the accident and have been taken under treatment.
