29 people arrested in operation targeting Halfeti Municipality: Former AKP mayor among them
In an investigation into the previous term of the Halfeti Municipality in Şanlıurfa, 29 out of 46 detained suspects have been arrested. Former AKP Mayor Şeref Albayrak is among those arrested.
The judicial proceedings have been completed for the suspects detained as part of an investigation launched into the previous administration of the Halfeti Municipality in Şanlıurfa, regarding allegations of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes" and "rigging the performance of an obligation."
The 46 individuals detained during an operation conducted on April 24 by the Şanlıurfa Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch, under the coordination of the Birecik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, were brought before a judge.
Among the suspects, which included former Halfeti Mayor Şeref Albayrak, municipal council members, personnel working in various departments, and some local business owners, 29 were arrested. While 3 of the 17 remaining suspects were released, judicial control measures were imposed on 14 others.
Within the scope of the investigation, proceedings had previously been initiated against a total of 51 people, 28 of whom were public officials, and 50 suspects had been detained. Four of these individuals were released following their statements at the police station.
Efforts to apprehend one fugitive suspect within the scope of the case are ongoing.
