Merve Safa Erbaş, daughter of Diyanet Affairs President Ali Erbaş, has issued a statement regarding the reactions to her social media post about the series 'Gassal'.
Erbaş stated that she served as a gassal (a person who performs the ritual washing of the deceased) following the February 6 earthquakes, lost relatives under the rubble, and spent days caring for earthquake victims. She claimed that she was subjected to severe slander and insults during this process, and that she has given power of attorney to her lawyer, adding that she will donate any compensation won from the lawsuits to foundations.
Regarding comments on social media calling her "her father's daughter," she said, “My father is my father; but having different views from him does not affect our family ties.”
Stating that she will continue to post despite the reactions, Merve Safa Erbaş announced that she would continue her posts, saying, “I believe that people's prejudices can be broken. I maintain my good intentions as I see people who get to know me over time and say, 'I was prejudiced, but I liked you as I read your posts.'”
WHAT DID SHE SAY?
Merve Safa Erbaş said that in her first post, she was criticizing some producers by saying, “You cannot film anything that does not contain profanity and sexuality, accept it.” Claiming that she received harsh reactions following these words, Erbaş stated that her words were misinterpreted, saying, “My words were addressing the lack of productions that do not contain profanity and sexuality. Despite this, many people took it personally.”
