Ali Yerlikaya's statement on the 'newborn gang': 'The indictment has been prepared'

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, following the "Peace of Turkey" meeting held at a hotel as part of his Tekirdağ program, made a statement regarding the investigation into the gang that placed newborn babies in intensive care to profit from the Social Security Institution and caused the deaths of 12 babies in Istanbul.

Stating that the investigation into the incident was launched on May 21, 2023, under the coordination of the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, following an application made to CIMER and a report by the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, Yerlikaya noted that the Istanbul Financial Crimes Investigation Branch had carried out and completed a comprehensive project study starting from June 20, 2023.

Reminding that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice made a statement on the subject today, Yerlikaya continued his speech as follows:

"With the joint work of our three ministries, including our Ministry of Interior, an indictment was prepared on 16.10.2024 against 47 suspects—these heartless individuals who disregarded the lives of our heaven-scented babies for illicit gain—and the trial process for these suspects, 22 of whom are currently in custody, has begun and is ongoing. The investigation is continuing in a multi-faceted and meticulous manner. The matter is now in the hands of the judiciary.

And together, on behalf of our great nation, we will see what kind of decision emerges from there, and our hope is that such events and crimes that wound our consciences and sadden us never occur. Since May, with a report made by a mother to CIMER, our Provincial Health Directorate, our Ministry of Health, our Ministry of Justice, our prosecutors, and the Istanbul Financial Crimes teams have illuminated this incident in a planned, projected, patient, and meticulous manner, and the trial process is ongoing."
