Allegations that 15 more municipalities will be placed under trustees! 12punto reaches inside information
Hours after CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was arrested and sent to prison, a trustee was appointed to the municipality. According to inside information obtained by 12punto, there are 15 more municipalities that authorities are planning to conduct operations on. The list consists primarily of municipalities won through the CHP-DEM Party partnership.
Following the arrest and imprisonment of Esenyurt's CHP Mayor Ahmet Özer over charges of terrorist links, Deputy Governor of Istanbul Can Aksoy was appointed as a trustee to the Esenyurt Mayor's office.
The developments have dominated the national agenda.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, CHP deputies, party organization officials, and members gathered in Esenyurt to protest the decision.
In addition to CHP members, officials from many different political parties, including the DEM Party, DEVA Party, Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi), Labor Party (Emek Partisi), and the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), also participated in the rally held against the trustee appointment.
Trustee appointments, which became common in many provinces with the Statutory Decrees (KHK) issued during the State of Emergency (OHAL), have been implemented in Istanbul for the first time with the process experienced by Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer.
TRUSTEES ON THE WAY FOR 15 MORE MUNICIPALITIES!
Following Özer's arrest, 12punto has reached information that Esenyurt Municipality will not be the only case, and that preparations for operations are underway for 15 other CHP-run municipalities where the CHP and DEM Party formed a "city consensus" in the March 31 local elections.
According to the aforementioned inside information, there are preparations for trustees in at least 15 more municipalities on the government's list.
Regarding Istanbul specifically, the DEM Party did not field candidates in 22 districts of Istanbul, including Esenyurt, Sultangazi, Sancaktepe, and Avcılar.
DEM Party member Ahmet Saymadi had announced in a statement made days before the March 31 local elections that the DEM Party would support the CHP in 22 districts of Istanbul, saying, "We are entering the elections in 22 districts in Istanbul on the Republican People's Party lists."
Similarly, in Ankara, the DEM Party had decided to support the CHP in 3 districts where it did not field candidates.
MHP'S İSMET BÜYÜKATAMAN TARGETED THEM
Following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, a notable statement on the subject came from MHP's İsmet Büyükataman.
In a statement made via his social media account, Büyükataman said, "The Akdeniz and Toroslar Municipalities, won through the CHP-DEM partnership under the name of 'City Consensus,' and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council members given to the DEM Party as a quota by İmamoğlu should be investigated, and the path to handing over municipalities to the terrorist organization must be closed."
Following the targeting by MHP's İsmet Büyükataman, the Akdeniz and Toroslar Municipalities have become the other municipalities on which eyes are turned, according to the inside information obtained by 12punto.
