Announced on social media: What did Tayfun Kahraman discuss with Tuğrul Türkeş in Silivri?

Urban planner Tayfun Kahraman, who is imprisoned in the Gezi Park case, shared a post on X regarding the prison visit by AKP Ankara MP Tuğrul Türkeş.

Kahraman stated the following in his post:

'WE HAD A MEETING IN AN EXTREMELY SINCERE ATMOSPHERE'

"We held a meeting with Mr. Tuğrul Türkeş at the Marmara Closed Penal Institution.

I would like to thank Mr. Tuğrul for the interest and effort he has shown regarding the injustice that I and the other Gezi prisoners are experiencing. We had a productive meeting with him in an extremely sincere atmosphere. We agree that the law is above politics and that a properly functioning justice system is our common national interest. This is the extent of the information and assessment I will provide to media organizations regarding this matter. We must come together for our country, for justice, and for the truth to prevail."

TÜRKEŞ HAD SPOKEN TO 12PUNTO

Türkeş, who met separately with Osman Kavala, Can Atalay, and Tayfun Kahraman at Silivri Prison, and with Çiğdem Mater and Mine Özerdem at Bakırköy Prison, described his impressions of the prison visit to 12punto columnist and journalist Müyesser Yıldız with these words:

“They are all in high spirits; I did not see any of them broken. They are knowledgeable about their cases and are following developments. We talked about the issues they are concerned about and their trial processes. It is not possible to put 3-5 unlikeable people in a bag and describe them as members of one group. Osman Kavala is a different man, Tayfun Kahraman is a different man, Can Atalay is a different man. This situation alone reveals that it is wrong to show them as members of the same gang. None of us had the same political views, and that is the sweetest part. People with different political views coming together and talking under different conditions is important in itself.”

Türkeş also stated the following:

“This visit was not part of my search for justice. It came up additionally. My main goal is to ensure that the trial processes in our country are conducted within the law. This is being discussed, which is a good thing. In order not to sensationalize the issue, I will only share my impressions from now on with those who are interested and those who are curious.”
