Another incident of violence in healthcare: Doctor suffers cardiac arrest after being attacked
In the Bodrum district of Muğla, a family physician suffered cardiac arrest after being attacked by a patient. The doctor, whose heart was restarted, has been taken under treatment at a hospital.
In the Bodrum district of Muğla, a doctor was attacked by a patient's relatives at the Family Health Center on Ortakent Cumhuriyet Street.
The doctor, who suffered cardiac arrest, was rushed to the hospital.
E.S. (55), who came to Bodrum from Istanbul for a vacation, brought his brother Ö.A.S. (48) to the health center complaining of a high fever. E.S. then entered the examination room of Dr. Mustafa Hürkal Tezvar (61) along with his brother. Although the doctor recommended going to a hospital, E.S. insisted on receiving treatment at the family health center.
E.S. grabbed Dr. Mustafa Gürkan Tezvar by the throat during the attack. Hearing the commotion, family health center staff intervened. After the attack, the doctor suffered cardiac arrest; staff at the center performed the initial intervention and managed to restart his heart.
It was learned that the doctor, who was taken to the hospital by 112 Emergency Health teams, remains in critical condition. It was also noted that the doctor had a pre-existing heart condition. E.S. and his brother Ö.A.S. were taken into custody regarding the incident and brought to the police station to provide statements.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH REGARDING THE DOCTOR SUBJECTED TO VIOLENCE
The Ministry of Health announced that Family Physician Dr. Mustafa Hürkal, who was subjected to violence in the Bodrum district of Muğla, continues to receive treatment in intensive care.
The statement from the Ministry emphasized the determination to combat violence against healthcare workers, stating, “Family Physician Dr. Mustafa Hürkal Tezvar, who was subjected to violence while on duty in the Bodrum district of Muğla, has been taken to the hospital.
Our physician's treatment continues in intensive care.
We never accept violence against our physicians, nurses, and all personnel working in our hospitals. We will fight against this issue with determination,” the statement read.
