Attack on Japanese culture festival Konohafest in Ümraniye
Police intervened after a group attacked the Konohafest Japanese culture and anime event held in Ümraniye, Istanbul; the festival was ended due to security concerns.
Tensions flared at Konohafest, an event held on October 3-4 in Ümraniye, Istanbul, to promote Japanese culture, anime, and art. It was reported that a group arrived at the event venue, advanced while chanting 'tekbir' (Allahu Akbar), and attacked the festival.
It was reported that participants, including children and their families, were targeted by physical violence during the incident. During the scuffle, flags, stands, and event equipment in the festival area were also damaged.
According to Sözcü TV reporter Nedim Bayhan, the police intervened against the attacking group and cleared the crowd from the area.
Following the intervention, it was announced that the organization was terminated due to the safety of the participants. Official statements regarding the incident are awaited.
