Barış Terkoğlu, one of the first participants of the Assembly of People's Representatives of Turkey, explains this important initiative

The Assembly of People's Representatives of Turkey (THTM) has set out for a secular, independent, sovereign country, a statist-planned economy, and a social system where all citizens can achieve prosperity and enlightenment in equality and brotherhood.

Barış Terkoğlu, one of the first participants of the Assembly of People's Representatives of Turkey initiative, points to the opportunity for those who struggle "on the Republican line, from Atatürkists to socialists" to meet. Many intellectuals, artists, scientists, and politicians have already said "I am in" for the assembly, which brings together people from different segments of society with different but friendly ideological and political tendencies.

"IT WILL STRIVE TO PRODUCE COMMON SOLUTIONS AND TRANSFORM"

One of those names is journalist Barış Terkoğlu. Drawing attention to the composition that will emerge in the assembly, which has been in preparation for a long time, Terkoğlu summarized the Assembly of People's Representatives of Turkey with the words, "In essence, it is a formation that defends Republican values, primarily equality, independence, and secularism, and where people from different tendencies come together," adding, "To put it more clearly, it will strive to bring together, produce common solutions for, and transform citizens who produce ideas and struggle on the Republican line, from Atatürkists to socialists."

Stating that the THTM, for which the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) launched the initial initiative, will include many people both with and without party affiliations, Terkoğlu described his own participation process with these words: "As we clearly saw in the last election in Turkey, reactionaries can easily come together. They can defend their interests together. However, progressives in Turkey cannot meet on a common line. I participated in and supported the THTM because I find it important for creating such a ground."

"IT WILL BRING REPUBLIC REVOLUTIONARIES SIDE BY SIDE"

The Assembly of People's Representatives of Turkey, whose representatives will begin to be determined through public meetings to be held starting from November 26, will meet for the first time with all its components on December 24.

Evaluating the importance of the THTM initiative in Turkey's political life in the coming period, Terkoğlu points to the necessity of defending and advancing Republican values:

''We are in the 100th year of the Republic. The reluctance in its celebrations at the government level tells us a lot. On the other hand, the voluntary ownership of the Republic by the people also gives an important message. The issue is not its name or symbols.

The values of the Republic that came with the revolution can only be defended by revolutionaries today. The THTM is important in the coming period because it will bring Republic revolutionaries side by side and create a ground that will carry it forward with egalitarian thought, rather than just defending the past.

Because the current government produces policies to strip the Republic of its values, abolish its Constitution, and make it belong to palaces rather than the people. Naturally, I care about the THTM because it will turn the Republic from an old song into a current struggle.''
