The Cabinet Meeting will convene at the Palace under the chairmanship of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Following the announcement of inflation data for 2024 by TUIK, salary increase rates have been determined. Civil servants and retired civil servants received an 11.54 percent raise, while SSK and BAĞKUR retirees received a 15.69 percent raise.

According to reports by Habertürk, the possibility of a welfare share for civil servants and an increase in the lowest pension salary will also be on the table at the Cabinet Meeting. A legal regulation on the matter is expected. The impact of a potential regulation on the budget will also be evaluated. The meeting, which will also serve as an economic X-ray of 2024, will examine expectations for 2025 alongside the data.

EXPECTATION FOR PENSION SALARY IS 15 THOUSAND LIRA

Social Security Institution (SGK) experts made an important assessment regarding salary increase expectations for retirees. Experts stated that when looking at the adjustments made in January in recent years, the lowest pension salary generally corresponds to approximately 68 percent of the minimum wage, and noted that a figure of 15 thousand lira is coming to the fore for this year.

In January 2023, while the minimum wage was 8 thousand 507 lira, the lowest pension salary was set at 65 percent of this amount, which was 5 thousand 500 lira. With the minimum wage rising to 11 thousand 402 lira in July, the lowest pension salary increased by 66 percent to 7 thousand 500 lira. By the end of 2024, while the minimum wage was 17 thousand 2 lira, the lowest pension salary reached the level of 12 thousand 500 lira, which corresponds to 73 percent of this amount.

DEVELOPMENTS IN SYRIA

The main topic of foreign policy in the Cabinet will be the latest developments in Syria. Ministries had sent delegations to contribute to reconstruction efforts in Syria. In this context, the work of the teams will be evaluated. Findings in the fields of infrastructure, energy, and agriculture, in particular, will be discussed.

The stage reached in the safe return processes of Syrians and the roadmap for the future will also be scrutinized.

FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

The current stage of the Turkish Armed Forces' fight against terrorism will also be addressed at the meeting. Details of operations targeting terrorist positions in northern Iraq and Syria will be evaluated. Israel's ongoing operations in Gaza and the ceasefire process will also be on the agenda. Following the meeting, President Erdoğan will deliver an address to the nation.
