Center for Combating Disinformation: Foreign Minister Fidan completed his undergraduate studies in Management and Political Science

The Center for Combating Disinformation stated in a post on its official social media account, "Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan completed his undergraduate education in Management and Political Science at the University of Maryland University College during his overseas assignment. Following his undergraduate studies, he applied to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) for equivalency; as can be seen in the document below, the Equivalency Certificate regarding his completion of studies equivalent to an undergraduate degree was issued in accordance with Articles 3 and 7/p of Law No. 2547, by the decision of the Higher Education Executive Board dated January 15, 1998. Minister Fidan later received his master's and doctoral degrees in International Relations from Bilkent University. Do not give credence to baseless allegations aimed at manipulating public opinion," it said.

"LEGAL ACTION IS BEING TAKEN REGARDING THE ALLEGATIONS"

Foreign Ministry sources denied the allegations brought up regarding Foreign Minister Fidan's university diploma, stating, "It is observed that some baseless allegations, which have been systematically raised in recent years as part of multi-faceted smear campaigns by FETÖ and its derivatives against Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, are being repeated. In fact, both the Center for Combating Disinformation and the Council of Higher Education had already responded to these allegations with documents. Our Minister's undergraduate, master's, and doctoral diplomas, along with his equivalency certificate, were brought to the attention of the public by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation on May 15, 2025.

Furthermore, a parliamentary question submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on the subject was answered by the Council of Higher Education through the Ministry of National Education on June 12, 2025.

The fact that these allegations are being brought back to the agenda in recent days is intended to deliberately mislead our public. Legal action is being taken regarding the allegations," the statement said.
