Chaos in Nusaybin where DEM Party held its group meeting: Police intervened against YPG supporters

The DEM Party's weekly parliamentary group meeting was held in Nusaybin following a last-minute change to draw attention to developments in Syria. Following the meeting, the DEM Co-Chairs made harsh statements regarding the conflicts in Syria.

Criticism was directed primarily at President Erdoğan's congratulations regarding the operations and MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli's remarks concerning the SDF. During the speeches, a group of participants wanted to head to the border line, but the police intervened against this group. The group was blocked using tear gas and water cannon vehicles (TOMA).

REACTION TO POLICE FROM TUNCER BAKIRHAN

DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, who reacted harshly to the intervention, condemned the police action, saying, "We are exercising our democratic right; what does it mean to attack young people?" Bakırhan stated, "Turkey's 3rd largest party is holding a group meeting, and you are beating the youth; we do not accept this."

A GROUP CROSSED THE BORDER

Following the meeting, a group marched toward the Qamishli border. While a group of people crossed the barbed wire at the border into Qamishli, the other group began to advance toward the Turkish border. Those who wanted to move from Qamishli toward Turkey were blocked by security forces, and warning shots were fired into the air.
