CHP's Gökhan Günaydın responds to claims of a trustee for the IMM: They want to go from Özkan to İmamoğlu

A new investigation has been launched on charges of "espionage" against former IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from office and arrested as part of a corruption investigation, as well as his campaign director Necati Özkan and journalist Merdan Yanardağ. While the development was met with intense criticism within the CHP, CHP Deputy Group Chairman Gökhan Günaydın evaluated the agenda as a guest on the ARENA program.

Günaydın commented on the espionage investigation conducted as part of the IMM operations and answered questions from journalist Uğur Dündar.

"There is a man named Hüseyin Gün. I don't know him, I'm not familiar with him. This man allegedly had crypto communications. Then, suddenly, our Necati Özkan's name started to be mentioned. I know Necati Özkan well. He is one of the best political scientists in Turkey. I know him very well. The prosecution says this person is calling Necati Özkan. He is sending messages. Looking at the content of the messages, there is a hierarchical relationship between them, and he is his superior in espionage activities. The allegation is that he sent three or four messages, but I did not understand where the espionage and hierarchical relationship came from in that."

"Necati Özkan is not someone who would work under anyone's hierarchy. He is a respected name everywhere in the world where he exists. Necati Özkan is not someone who would work under that gentleman. Then his wife's message came to me. He says, 'I only had one meeting with him in 2019 to receive a presentation, and I rejected it. I did not work with him and never met him again.' It's that simple. If the prosecution says otherwise, it has to prove it with base station records. The prosecution says 'he sent messages.' Turkey has seen this. We remember Mehmet Ali Çelebi. They had added conversations he never had to his phone. If Necati Özkan says 'I met him once in 2019 and never met him again,' I trust his statement."

"THEY WANT TO GO FROM NECATİ ÖZKAN TO İMAMOĞLU"

"The next stop they want to reach is Ekrem İmamoğlu. They are coming to Necati Özkan to get to İmamoğlu. What has İmamoğlu done as an espionage activity? Manipulating the 2019 elections with the intervention of foreign intelligence services. In other words, his victory by a margin of 13 thousand in March 2019 was supposedly thanks to the activities of foreign intelligence agencies. They claim they collected data and served it abroad."

"My friend, are you mocking our intelligence? In 2019, we won by a landslide, you cut off the data flow from the AA (Anadolu Agency), and then you shamelessly said we won. You plastered the posters you prepared in advance all over Istanbul. We collected the wet-signed minutes and knew we won by a margin of 13 thousand. Then we waited for the YSK (Supreme Election Council) to collect the data. The YSK later announced that İmamoğlu won by a margin of 13 thousand. Who held the IMM? It was in the hands of AKP's Mevlüt Uysal. Then you didn't give the certificate of election for a long time. When the election was renewed, you managed it. So, how did İmamoğlu serve data abroad while the IMM was in your hands? This mindset is what made you cancel the elections."

"TC ID NUMBERS ARE CIRCULATING IN THE HANDS OF OTHERS"

"In this country, MIT (National Intelligence Organization) data was stolen. The Cosmic Room was entered. All of our Turkish ID numbers are circulating in the hands of others, my brother, what are you talking about? Forgery has run rampant. While it is obvious that Turkey's security has been riddled with holes, making an allegation through the 'İstanbul Senin' application... I downloaded this application. It is an application that shows you where and what concerts are happening. It is an application made by the IMM. They say you are collecting and selling data from here. So, is the CIA or Israel now in need of the 'İstanbul Senin' application to collect data? I mean, these things would make children laugh."

"CLAIMS OF A TRUSTEE FOR THE IMM ARE EXTREMELY WRONG"

"These are extremely wrong interpretations legally and politically. If an investigation is opened with an accusation of terrorism, the Minister of Interior can appoint a trustee along with the opening of that investigation. This is an antidemocratic law enacted during the State of Emergency (OHAL) period after July 15. You know, an investigation was opened regarding the 'City Consensus' (Kent Uzlaşısı). He was not arrested for terrorism. There had been no obstacle to appointing a trustee since March 19, but why couldn't they appoint one? Because hundreds of thousands of people in Saraçhane said, 'What kind of nonsense is this?'"
