First statement from CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel regarding the historic meeting

Following AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's return visit to the CHP, the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) met under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel.

Following the meeting, CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel held a press conference.

He made evaluations regarding the Erdoğan-Özel meeting.

Regarding the meeting, Yücel used the expression, "The dialogue channel that has been opened will not make us abandon our principles."

Reminding that Özgür Özel had met with Erdoğan and that Erdoğan subsequently paid a return visit, Yücel said, "I would like to express that we find this extremely important in terms of our country's democracy.

The fact that the CHP has opened the dialogue channels that the government had closed until now is an important step for Turkish political history. Dialogue, consultation, and negotiation are indispensable elements of democracy.

As the CHP, we are ready to contribute to every issue that will benefit society and contribute to the resolution of problems. We observe that this process, which we call normalization, is also being met positively by society. We know that the solution to the fundamental problems that affect everyone lies within the political institution," he said.

"IT WILL NOT MAKE US ABANDON OUR PRINCIPLES"

Stating, "We have all experienced that the polarization and division that have been going on for a very long time have not yielded positive results. For this reason, we attach importance to political parties being in dialogue in a way that will establish social peace," Yücel said the following:

"This dialogue channel that has been opened will not make us abandon the principled opposition we believe in, nor will it stop us from being the voice of society. Let no one have any doubt that we will reach out to every segment that has a problem and that we will provide the harshest opposition when necessary.

Our determined stance regarding the resolution of the economic and social impasse our country is in will continue. As the CHP, we are acting with the awareness of the responsibility our people gave to our party on March 31 regarding the solution to the problems that are growing like an avalanche."

GEZI TRIAL BROUGHT TO THE AGENDA

Touching upon the Erdoğan-Özel meeting, Yücel said, "Our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel and Mr. President shared with each other many issues they see from their own perspectives regarding the country's problems.

We conveyed to Mr. President the issues that are a bleeding wound for the country and concern the entire society. The issue of the convicted generals was conveyed by our Chairman in the previous meeting.

The issue was resolved, albeit with a delay. In this regard, Özgür Özel expressed his thanks to the President. We find it important that the request for a reversal in the interest of the law in the Gezi Park protests trial be conveyed to the Ministry of Justice," he said.

DEMAND FOR A MINIMUM WAGE HIKE

Stating that Özel brought the problems of different segments to the agenda, Deniz Yücel said, "Our Chairman also brought to the agenda that there should be an interim hike in the minimum wage; that the lowest pension should be raised to the level of the minimum wage; that regulations should be made to eliminate the grievances of tea and grain producers who are crushed under production costs; teachers who have not been appointed; the problems experienced by private school teachers; victims of internship and apprenticeship; the situation of those waiting for a step-based retirement; and the rental assistance for earthquake survivors, who were shaken by a massive disaster on February 6, which is about to end."

RESPONSE TO ÖMER ÇELİK

On the other hand, responding to the statement made by AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik regarding the meeting, Yücel said, "We do not think that society has gained anything in the economy, as Mr. Ömer Çelik stated. There have been some developments in the past in favor of a very small and narrow segment of society, but this is not enough. If there is to be a gain in the economy, we believe it should be a gain for the segments crushed under the cost of living," he said.
