Statement from CHP on Ayşe Barım

Following allegations of monopolization in the sector, an investigation was launched into talent manager Ayşe Barım, and now, a Gezi Park investigation has been opened against her as well.

Barım, who is alleged to be among the planners of the Gezi Park protests, was detained on charges of "attempting to overthrow the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties."

Within the scope of the investigation in which Barım was detained, famous actors Dolunay Soysert and Halit Ergenç were also summoned by the prosecutor's office to give statements.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Diyarbakır Deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu reacted to Barım's detention.

Stating, "This detention process is also a sign that a new retroactive 'witch hunt' has been launched," Tanrıkulu used the following expressions in his post on his X account:

''The legal gravity in the detention of Ayşe Barım; the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which issues detention warrants for hundreds of people due to various investigations and does not feel the need to make a statement while issuing these warrants, announced the detention of Ayşe Barım with a press release.

The statement indicates that Ayşe Barım was detained due to the Gezi protests in 2013. When the statement is read, the statement itself is not unfamiliar to us at all. This statement has been taken from the Gezi indictment and the Gezi decision included in the decision-making processes of those who carried out the detention operation. In the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's statement, reference was made to the phone calls Ayşe Barım made with actors affiliated with the agency she founded. That a citizen, whose name has come to the agenda with another allegation, is also being investigated for Gezi regarding a civil objection that took place 12 years ago, and that phone record information is being examined for this reason. Due to Gezi, there are many citizens like Ayşe Barım who have had investigations launched against them, lawsuits filed, and who have been acquitted in many cities; there are also decisions issued by the Istanbul Courthouse. The Gezi Case recently filed against the Çarşı Group is a concrete example of this. There is an ECHR Grand Chamber decision issued regarding Gezi. In that decision, this period was also evaluated, and a determination was made within the framework of the right to assembly and demonstration and freedom of expression. This decision has not been complied with by those currently conducting the investigation. There are many Constitutional Court decisions of a similar nature. This detention process is also a sign that a new retroactive 'witch hunt' has been launched.

While Ayşe Barım had not been invited to give a statement regarding the allegations against her, her detention due to Gezi reveals that another process has been initiated, beyond politicians, in terms of civil society, activists, and citizens. I hope this is not the case."
