Communications Director Altun: RTÜK is obligated to perform its duty

In a post on his social media account, Communications Director Altun stated, "The stance that public authority must take against broadcasts that aim to incite the public to hatred and hostility, disrupt public order, and suppress individual rights and freedoms is clear.

Within the framework established by the Constitution and the laws, RTÜK is obligated to perform its duty as a regulatory and supervisory body. The responsibility that falls upon media institutions and organizations is to engage in responsible, principled, ethical, and truth-based broadcasting. If we want to preserve the democratic social order and guarantee freedom of the press, this is what must be done first," he said.

Stating that broadcasts aimed at discrediting Turkey, encouraging vandalism, and escalating violence are unacceptable, Altun declared, "Broadcasts aimed at discrediting Turkey, encouraging vandalism, escalating violence, providing ground for terrorist organizations, and undermining judicial institutions cannot be defended under any circumstances. We call upon those who direct harsh criticism at the measures implemented by RTÜK to first abandon their attitude of ignoring the constant slander, insults, and accusations directed at our President and our government by media organizations that broadcast along an axis close to their own ideologies."

Emphasizing that broadcasts made through provocation, insult, and slander under the guise of press freedom must come to an end, Altun stated, "We insistently underline that the provocations, insults, slanders, and broadcasts that violate personal rights, which we have seen in recent days under the guise of press freedom, must come to an end.

In this context, we once again importantly remind our broadcasters that they must act with a sense of responsibility and should not include insults, slander, or actions and rhetoric that harm personal rights in their broadcasts. We will continue to work day and night under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to protect the rights of our nation and for a great and strong Turkey," he said.
