Confessions begin to emerge from PKK terrorists: They killed hunters, mistaking them for 'intelligence officers'

The statement indicated that the two individuals were mistaken for "intelligence officers" at the time of the incident, and that it was understood following a later assessment that they had gone to the region to hunt.

According to the HPG's statement, because Güngen and Batmaz were carrying weapons, binoculars, and a radio, they were thought to be Turkish military or intelligence personnel. It was noted that while they were targeted for this reason, investigations determined that they were in the region solely for hunting activities.
