Critical step for Rojin Kabaiş's phone

In the investigation into the death of 21-year-old university student Rojin Kabaiş, who went missing in Van on September 27, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found on the lakeshore on October 15, 2024, a new development has occurred regarding the examination of her phone.

The family's lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut, announced in a statement on his social media account that they have received a new assessment from cyber informatics experts regarding the phone, which has remained locked until now.

Karabulut stated that the experts have indicated the device could be opened without erasing the data inside, and that in line with discussions held with the prosecutor's office, the method will first be tested on another phone of the same make and model.

In his statement, lawyer Karabulut said, "If a successful result is achieved while preserving the data, the same procedure will be applied to Rojin's phone. We expect this work to be carried out next week."

Emphasizing that unlocking the phone is of critical importance for the investigation, Karabulut noted that the digital data on the device is among the "most important evidence that could shed light on the dark points of the investigation."

Karabulut's statement is as follows:

"Following the inability to unlock the phone belonging to Rojin Kabaiş until now, cyber informatics experts who reached out to us have reported that the device can be opened without deleting the data. In line with our meeting with the prosecutor's office, the method will first be tested on a phone of the same make and model.

If a successful result is achieved while preserving the data, the same procedure will be applied to Rojin's phone. We expect this work to be carried out next week. Unlocking the phone means uncovering the most important digital evidence that could shed light on the dark points of the investigation."
