Disinformation again, Gökçek again: The place he shared as 'Rot in hell, Israel' turns out to be Syria

It has emerged that a video shared by former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek and some news websites as 'children affected by the Hamas-Israel war' is actually from Syria.

Gökçek, who is constantly in the spotlight for spreading misinformation on social media, had shared the video with the message: "My heart breaks while listening... Rot in hell, Israel."

FILMED IN IDLIB IN 2022

The video, which was examined by teyit.org, was found to have been recorded in Idlib in 2022. The findings of the investigation by Teyit.org are as follows:

''Many pieces of suspicious information are circulating on social media regarding the Israel-Hamas War that began on October 7, 2023. In one of the posts, it was claimed that the children in the video were describing the difficulties they faced due to the Israel-Hamas war.

When we perform a reverse image search using screenshots taken from the video, we see that the video is both old and unrelated to the Israel-Hamas war.

The video appeared on news sites with the headline 'Syrian girl: What is our crime that we are freezing!'
