A disturbing statement has come from Prof. Naci Görür regarding the consecutive earthquakes that occurred today in the Tuşba district of Van. Görür stated, "The last major Van earthquake was also in this region."
The full statement from Görür is as follows:
“Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.0 and 4.2 occurred in the Koçköy area of Van. These earthquakes are on the Yeniköşk fault. This is a reverse fault. The earthquakes are shallow. It is close to Lake Erçek. The last major Van earthquake was also in this region.”
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), two consecutive earthquakes occurred in the Tuşba district of Van; the magnitude of the earthquake that occurred at 11:39 was announced as 3.6, and the magnitude of the one at 11:58 was announced as 4.1.
