DMM refutes '130,000 official vehicles' claim

The DMM issued a statement on its social media account regarding reports on the use of luxury vehicles in the public sector.

The statement included the following:

Claims appearing in some media outlets and social media channels stating that 'As the economic crisis deepens in Turkey, the use of luxury vehicles in the public sector has increased. The number of official vehicles in Turkey has reached 130,000' do not reflect the truth and contain complete disinformation. According to data from our Ministry of Treasury and Finance, there are a total of 119,752 vehicles in use by public administrations under the central government.

HERE ARE THE AREAS OF USE

The vast majority of these vehicles are service vehicles allocated for the effective and uninterrupted execution of public services. In this context, 74,759 (62.42 percent) of the vehicles are used in defense and security services, 10,225 (8.53 percent) in health services provided to our citizens, 7,186 (6 percent) in agriculture and forestry activities, 7,519 (5.97 percent) in education services, 4,882 (4.07 percent) in justice services, and 15,181 (12.67 percent) in other public services.

OFFICIAL VEHICLE USE IS 1.67 PERCENT

The number of vehicles that can be used as official vehicles constitutes 1.67 percent of the total number of public vehicles, and these vehicles are allocated to governors, district governors, general managers, and equivalent/higher-level administrators. In this context, claims that 'there are 130,000 official vehicles in Turkey' contradict existing data and constitute disinformation aimed at misleading the public. In fact, Turkey's total public vehicle inventory remains even lower than the claimed figure for official vehicles. It is of great importance that the public relies on data transparently shared by official institutions and disregards claims that do not reflect the truth and are intended for manipulation.
