DMM refutes that report by pro-government newspaper! 'It is not a state policy...'

The pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak reported that in order to curb the rise in food prices in Turkey, a "'Cumhur' (People's) Aisle" practice would be implemented in chain supermarkets with over 55 thousand branches.

While the report drew reactions from the CHP, a statement regarding the news also came from the Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM).

In the statement made by the DMM, it was noted that the aforementioned 'Cumhur Aisle' report does not reflect the truth and consists merely of a suggestion voiced in a newspaper.

The DMM's statement is as follows:

"The issue, which was brought to the agenda as a suggestion in a newspaper regarding the 'establishment of 'Cumhur Aisles' in supermarkets across Turkey,' has been distorted on social media platforms and circulated as 'Cumhur Aisles will be established in supermarkets, and the state will provide the products.' These claims do not reflect the truth and do not represent any public policy. Political statements targeting public institutions based on manipulative social media posts clearly constitute disinformation.

The 'Cumhur Aisle' expression in question does not represent a state policy; it only expresses a suggestion at the level of an idea voiced in a newspaper. The suggestion in question is not an application that has been adopted by official institutions or for which any decision has been taken to implement.

Despite this, the fact that representatives of the main opposition party present this suggestion, which was voiced in a newspaper article, as an official project announced by the government and make political evaluations based on it is an indication of a deliberate attitude.

Statements such as 'Is it a Cumhur Aisle or a Discrimination Aisle?' made based on these baseless claims are an unfounded and groundless black propaganda attempt that has nothing to do with reality and aims to create polarization in society.

There is no project under the name 'Cumhur Aisle' on the agenda of the government or relevant institutions. Presenting a suggestion contained in a newspaper column as if it were state policy is to create political polemics, mislead the public, and pave the way for disinformation.

Our public institutions and organizations operate with an understanding of service to our nation. It is of great importance that our citizens access accurate information only through statements from official institutions."
