Driver's statement revealed in accident that caused death of national basketball player İlkan Karaman
Former A National Basketball Team player İlkan Karaman lost his life at the age of 34 in a traffic accident in the Datça district of Muğla. The driver involved in the accident, Emre Ali Önder, was caught and arrested after leaving the scene.
İlkan Karaman, who played for the A National Basketball Team and spent years playing for various teams in the Basketball Super League, lost his life in a traffic accident in the Datça district of Muğla.
Karaman, who lived in İzmir and had recently rented a house in Datça, was seriously injured when he was struck by a car driven by civil engineer Emre Ali Önder while he was trying to cross the road while moving his belongings to his new home at around 02:30 the previous day.

Karaman, who was taken to Marmaris State Hospital after the accident, could not be saved despite all interventions.
Following the accident, the driver Emre Ali Önder left the scene but was caught in front of Datça State Hospital approximately 2 hours later. Önder, who was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.16 promille during the examination, was taken into custody and arrested by the court he was brought before.

PROSECUTOR'S STATEMENT REVEALED
The statement given by driver Emre Ali Önder to the prosecutor's office has been revealed. Önder stated that he had drunk 2 beers at home before the accident and then went out into traffic to get his mother's sleeping pills. He explained that he stepped on the brakes at the moment of the accident, but the vehicle skidded, hit the median, and crossed into the opposite lane. Önder said, "After the accident, citizens came to the scene and attended to us. I went to the hospital because I was injured; my intention was not to flee the scene. I was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and I am very sorry for what happened."
