Ekrem İmamoğlu resigns from CHP

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Marmara Prison in Silivri, has announced his resignation from the CHP. İmamoğlu stated that he has joined the YENİ Party.

Announcing his resignation through a statement on his social media account, İmamoğlu used the following expressions:

My Dear Citizens,

My Dear Fellow Travelers,

I am resigning from my 17-year membership in the Republican People's Party (CHP).

This decision is a result of the responsibility I carry toward our nation and the values I believe in regarding the future of our country.

I would like to thank all my fellow travelers with whom we have worked hard and walked shoulder to shoulder until today.

Today, we are opening a NEW path to build a stronger, more democratic, and more hopeful future for Turkey together.

I invite you to be a part of this journey, to grow hope together, and to build the future together.
