Fatih Altaylı evaluates electricity price hike: They will do it again at the end of the year
Journalist Fatih Altaylı made statements following the electricity price hike. Altaylı stated that there will be another electricity price hike by the end of the year.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı announced that there will be another electricity price hike at the end of the summer. Altaylı explained the reasons for these electricity price hikes as follows.
DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES ARE LOSING MONEY
“We know why the hike was made. It was done for the distribution companies because the companies are losing money. With reckless pricing and reckless borrowing, the distribution companies were sold to those famous contractors close to the AKP 10-15 years ago. Now they can no longer bear it. Because they are losing money, the exchange rate difference has grown significantly; there is a huge difference between the exchange rate on the day they bought them and today's exchange rate. The purpose of the hike is to cover the losses of the distribution companies. In other words, so that the contractors close to the AKP lose less money."
THEY WILL HIKE PRICES AGAIN
"Because we knew about the decision made by the BRSA. The information that reached me from the BRSA was that there would be an electricity price hike of between 35 and 40 percent towards the end of the summer and 60 percent towards December. That is why I said this. Since they brought forward the hike that was supposed to happen at the end of the summer by 2 months, I don't know if they will also bring forward the hike they planned for December and do it in October or so. But this is just the appetizer; we know very clearly that a decision for another hike has been made."
ALTAYLI TO MUSTAFA VARANK: WHY WAS THE HIKE MADE?
Touching upon the statements of former Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Fatih Altaylı said, "You know how Minister Varank used to say 'this didn't increase, that didn't increase, why did this price increase in Istanbul' and so on. Let us ask Varank here: what increased? Did the price of coal increase? No... Did the sun increase, did the price of wind increase, yet a 38 percent hike was made to electricity," he stated.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In recent days, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) announced that a 38 percent hike had been made to electricity prices.
With the hike, a house consuming 100 kWh of electricity will receive a bill of 207.23 liras.
In the statement made by the EPDK, it was conveyed that final retail electricity sales prices were updated due to recent increases in energy production costs.
It was announced that an increase of 38 percent was made for the residential subscriber group, 30 percent for the agricultural activities subscriber group, 38 percent for the low tier of the public and private services sector subscriber group, and 20 percent for the high tier.
It was stated that the hike would be effective as of July 1.
