Fatih Altaylı's take on Serhat Akın: 'If he had been fired, he wouldn't have been shot'

Former national footballer and football commentator Serhat Akın was wounded in the foot as a result of an armed attack in Beykoz, Istanbul. Following the attack, Akın shared a photo of the moment he was wounded on his social media account, stating, "They shot me in the feet after the program; our final word is Fenerbahçe."

'PRESSURE WAS PUT ON THE CHANNEL MANAGEMENT'

Regarding the incident, journalist Fatih Altaylı put forward striking claims about the background of the attack. Stating that Serhat Akın had become a target due to his harsh criticism of the Fenerbahçe management, Altaylı said:

“Akın, who is a fanatical Fenerbahçe supporter but targeted the current Fenerbahçe management with harsh criticisms, had been under pressure from the management for a long time. It was being discussed in the sports community that pressure was being put on the management and owner of the channel where he worked to fire Serhat Akın, and that if Akın continued to be employed, the channel's Fenerbahçe reporter would not be allowed into the facilities.”

'IF HE HAD BEEN FIRED, HE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SHOT'

Emphasizing that there was serious pressure on the channel where Serhat Akın worked, Fatih Altaylı said, "He probably wouldn't have been shot if he had been fired." Stating that this situation points to a dangerous trend in Turkish sports, Altaylı added, "This incident will be handled just like the Sinan Ateş murder. This is the point that Turkish sports has reached, and has been brought to."
