Fecal matter detected in Perrier mineral water, which is also sold in Turkey

Following the detection of fecal-derived bacteria in a well located in Gard, in the south of France, a decision was made to destroy two million bottles of water belonging to the Perrier brand, which is part of the Nestle group.

This situation is believed to be linked to the heavy rainfall that occurred following Storm Monica, which affected southeastern France in March. Nestle stated that the well would resume operations at an appropriate time under the supervision of authorities.

Recently, many reports have been heard about products from different brands regarding mineral water, which is frequently consumed around the world and is considered beneficial for health.

BACTERIA DETECTED

In Switzerland, it was announced that "a high amount of boron" was found in Beypazarı mineral water, and it was advised not to consume it. Finally, France announced that fecal matter and bacteria found in humans were detected in Perrier mineral water, which is part of the Nestle group.

In this context, French authorities requested that one of the wells be shut down as a precaution. It is believed that the presence of fecal samples in the products occurred following the very heavy rainfall linked to Storm Monica, which hit southeastern France in mid-March.

MINERAL WATER WELL HAS BEEN IN SERVICE FOR 100 YEARS

The well, located in Vergèze near Nîmes, has been producing mineral water for the Perrier brand since it was established in 1903. Whether any problems had been encountered in the well before has also become a subject of curiosity.

On the other hand, Perrier-branded mineral water is also sold in many chain stores in Turkey.

THEY USED BANNED PRACTICES TO MAINTAIN QUALITY

Although, according to Nestle, the facility is expected to 'resume operations at an appropriate time under the supervision of authorities,' the mineral water producer had already been under pressure since the end of January after admitting that it had used banned practices in some of its brands to maintain quality.
