Flood and inundation warning in Istanbul

The Istanbul Governor's Office, in line with the assessments of the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), has issued a warning for heavy rainfall expected to take effect in the city starting this evening, as well as a storm in the Sea of Marmara. The statement indicated that the precipitation will continue until tomorrow and its intensity will be between 20-40 kilograms locally.

HEAVY RAIN AND STORM WILL BE EFFECTIVE

Meteorology stated that the heavy rainfall, which will begin in the east of Istanbul after this evening, will take the region under its influence and that the precipitation will intensify locally. The rainfall is expected to continue until tomorrow evening, with 20 to 40 kilograms of precipitation per square meter. It was also emphasized that a storm is expected in the Sea of Marmara.

THREAT OF FLOOD AND INUNDATION

The Istanbul Governor's Office warned citizens against potential negative consequences due to the expected heavy rain and wind. It was stated that caution should be exercised regarding floods, inundations, traffic disruptions, and potential problems in maritime transport due to the storm.

The following statements were included in the Governor's Office's announcement:

“A storm is expected in our seas (Marmara)! According to the assessment of the General Directorate of Meteorology, the heavy rainfall expected in the east of our region is expected to be locally strong (20-40 kg/m2) in Istanbul from this evening until tomorrow (Friday) evening. It is necessary to be careful and take precautions against negative conditions such as floods, inundations, strong winds during rainfall, and disruptions in transportation.”
