Statement from Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Keçeli on developments in Idlib and surrounding areas

Keçeli made a statement on his X social media account regarding the developments in Idlib and the surrounding region.

Stating that "maintaining calm in Idlib and the surrounding region, which is located at our zero-point border, is a priority issue for our country," Keçeli emphasized that several agreements regarding the Idlib De-escalation Zone have been established since 2017 and that Turkey has meticulously fulfilled the requirements of the agreements to which it is a party.

Keçeli said, "We have issued the necessary warnings in various international platforms that the recent attacks on Idlib have reached a scale that would damage the spirit and functioning of the Astana agreements and have caused serious civilian casualties, and we have placed on record that these attacks must be stopped."

Stating that the clashes in recent days have caused an undesirable increase in tension in the region, Keçeli underlined that it is of great importance for Turkey that new and greater instability is not triggered and that the civilian population is not harmed.

Keçeli noted the following:

"We are also closely monitoring the increase in attacks by terrorist groups in Tel Rifaat and Manbij, which are attempting to exploit the current environment of instability, targeting the civilian population and Turkey. The failure to fulfill the requirements of agreements previously reached with stakeholders to end the terrorist presence in these regions increases our concerns."

Keçeli emphasized that they are following the developments very closely within the framework of the importance they attach to Syria's unity and territorial integrity and the priority they give to the fight against terrorism.
