Forensic Medicine Institute preliminary report released in Narin Güran murder case

Forensic Medicine Institute preliminary report released in Narin Güran murder case

The investigation into the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream 19 days later, is deepening.

While her uncle Salim Güran and the confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar have been arrested in connection with Narin's murder, legal proceedings for 22 other suspects are ongoing at the courthouse.

As the proceedings for the 22 suspects continue at the courthouse, a new development has occurred regarding the Narin Güran murder.

The preliminary report from the Diyarbakır Forensic Medicine Institute has been released.

According to the released report, no DNA belonging to anyone other than her uncle Salim Güran was found on Narin.

"THERE IS A MISIDENTIFICATION"

Diyarbakır Bar Association President Attorney Nahit Eren stated in his announcement that this is not a preliminary report on the cause of death, but rather a report from the Diyarbakır Forensic Medicine Institute regarding the possibility of finding DNA samples belonging to third parties in the samples taken from Narin's body and the bag she was found in.

Stating that "there is a misidentification," Eren said, "There is a perception as if this were a report regarding the cause of Narin's death or the determination of that cause. No, this report is only about whether or not a DNA sample belonging to a third party was found on Narin.

The fact that she remained underwater for a long period of 19 days eliminates the conditions for making such a determination. More precisely, if there was a potential sample related to a third party, this time frame unfortunately makes the process of identification difficult.

The report received confirms this. We can say that due to this reason, no DNA sample belonging to a third party was found on Narin within the 19-day period. The report from the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute, to which many data points have been sent regarding the cause of death, has not yet arrived."
