CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made harsh statements regarding the Kartalkaya tragedy during his party's group meeting today (February 11).

Emphasizing that those responsible for the incident, in which 78 people including 36 children lost their lives, have still not been identified, Özel reminded that 21 days have passed since Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya's promise that "the responsible parties will be announced."

Stating last week that they had launched an initiative for Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy to be held accountable before the Supreme Council, Özel noted in his speech today that 260 deputies have supported this process.

However, expressing that the support of 40 more deputies is needed for the legal process, Özel addressed AKP and MHP deputies, saying, "We are looking for 40 deputies who are loyal to their oath, who will not be ashamed when looking into their grandchildren's eyes, and who can account to their neighbors and teachers."

Özel emphasized that they will continue the struggle to ensure that those responsible for the tragedy are tried, stating that if a majority is secured in Parliament, Ersoy will be referred to the Supreme Council.

Özel expressed the following:

"IF WE REACH 301, THE PARLIAMENT WILL INVESTIGATE"

Once again, the entire opposition, without exception, and even independent deputies are participating. The number of deputies who have signed for the investigation commission has exceeded 260.

All those who have a group have signed. Deputies without a group have signed. Independents are signing. We are moving past 260. If we reach 300, 301, the Parliament will investigate whether he goes to the Supreme Council or not. Every document it requests, like a prosecutor, will come to the Parliament.

But we need 35-40 more deputies who are loyal to their oath, who will not be ashamed when looking into their grandchildren's eyes, who have the capacity to account to their children, and who will feel shame before their neighbors and their primary school teachers.

"THIS NUMBER USED TO BE 55"

For this, we will also visit the AK Party and MHP groups. If necessary, we will visit all deputies one by one and remind them of this conscientious responsibility. But let me remind you of one thing: This constitution—the one made not for every newborn, but for Erdoğan—had this number at 55 in the previous constitution they disliked, up until the day before it was made.

If 55 deputies wanted, a commission could be proposed for the Parliament to investigate everything. They made that number 301. One more than half. Even those who pass away in Parliament, those who leave to become mayors, or those who resign and vacate their seats are counted; you have to find signatures equal to one more than half. We, as the opposition, are reaching as far as we can.

They met on the same conscientious signature despite having diametrically opposed views. Now, if we can meet with those 40, with their parties, and secure it, then this Parliament will be able to express that it is a parliament and that it is properly fulfilling the duty given by the nation.
