'I will return with an acquittal, not an amnesty,' he had said: A signal of return from Sedat Peker!
Sedat Peker, who is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, drew attention with a song he shared at his birthday party. The words “My return will be magnificent” have brought the question of a return to Turkey back to the agenda. Peker had previously stated, “I will return with an acquittal, not an amnesty.”
The case of Sedat Peker, who is wanted under an Interpol red notice on charges of establishing an organized crime group and has been living abroad for a long time, was heard on May 16 at the Istanbul 16th High Criminal Court.
During the hearing, Peker's lawyers requested the removal of the red notice issued against their client. However, the court rejected this request. Furthermore, it was ruled that there was no need to hear the testimonies of Emre Erciş, Ozan Değmez, Oktay Tarhan, and Erdinç Yazar, who are listed as complainants in the file. The trial was adjourned to November 28.
A SIGNIFICANT POST FROM PEKER ON HIS BIRTHDAY
The video Peker shared on the occasion of his birthday quickly became a trending topic on social media. While the lyrics "My return will be magnificent" from the song playing in the video drew attention, this post raised questions about whether Peker is planning a return to Turkey. Following the post, the question "Is Peker preparing to return to Turkey?" began to be debated in the public eye once again.
Journalist Timur Soykan recounted a dialogue Peker had with a government bureaucrat.
According to Soykan's claim, the bureaucrat told Peker that he could return to Turkey through an amnesty. However, Peker rejected this proposal. It was stated that he said, "I did not commit a crime. Amnesty is for those who commit crimes. I will be acquitted anyway. I will not return with an amnesty."
SIGNAL OF A THAW IN RELATIONS WITH THE MHP
In the past, Peker had made serious accusations against certain government officials, particularly Süleyman Soylu, while MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had criticized him in harsh terms.
However, notable developments have been occurring recently. A social media post by MHP Deputy Chairman İzzet Ulvi Yönter regarding Peker became a topic of discussion. Yönter's message, "Everything has its time... Greetings to those who wait for the appointed time..." led to interpretations that the ice between them is melting.
