Terrorist organization PKK's camps are being evacuated: More than 100 camps to be vacated
Following the terrorist organization PKK's decision to lay down arms, eyes have turned to the camps in Northern Iraq. The evacuation process, which will take place under the supervision of the MIT, will last for months. After the camps are vacated, Peshmerga forces will be deployed to the region. Here are the new details regarding the disarmament process...
Following the PKK's decision to hold a dissolution congress and lay down its arms, the fate of the organization's bases and shelters in Northern Iraq and the Qandil Mountains has begun to become clear.
According to information obtained by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü from security sources, the evacuation process will be carried out under the supervision of the MIT. Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) units currently operating in the region will be on duty to ensure the security of the areas to be vacated. Once the process is completed, forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq will be deployed to the region.
There are seven camps east of Qandil named Harun, Ayhan, Rüstem, Berdakaşo, Dolakoge, Asos, and Kalatukan. These camps house the women's structure KJB, a so-called headquarters, an armory, a smuggling control unit, a tailor shop, a cemetery, and a security company.
On the western side, there are seven camps named Kortek, Bole, Lewce, Şehit Rüstem, Zergele, Surede, and Balakayati. These camps contain two battalions of armed units, an armed training area for women, a hospital, underground armories, and logistics warehouses.
NORTHERN IRAQ DIVIDED INTO 3 FIELDS
The PKK has divided its shelter areas in Northern Iraq into three regions: the Qandil Field, the Zagros Field, and the Behdinan Field.
While there are 14 camps in the Qandil Field, the Avaşin, Basyan, Hakurk, and Haftanin camps are located in the Zagros Field. In the Behdinan field, the Zap, Gara, and Metina camps exist.
Additionally, there are 24 other different camps where the terrorist organization is stationed in the Duhok province, which is in the Claw-Lock Operation region.
BASES AND WATCHTOWERS ACTIVE UNDER TSK SUPERVISION
In the Bradost region, which covers Qandil and its surroundings, 31 bases and watchtowers belonging to the TSK are active. There are 5 different surveillance and reconnaissance points in the Sidekan and Rewandüz towns of Erbil. 3 observation points are stationed on Hasan Bey Hill in Qandil, and 5 outposts and surveillance units are stationed on Mount Helgurt.
Thanks to the base area established in the Huşkan region of the Çoman district, the logistical support provided to the terrorists has been cut off. This line features watchtowers equipped with high-resolution thermal cameras developed by ASELSAN, such as the Spy Owl, Cat's Eye, and Falcon's Eye.
HAFTANIN AND HAKURK: THE GATEWAY TO TURKEY
There are approximately 20 camps in the Haftanin Valley, which is on the border of the Claw-Tiger Operation. These camps house armories, tailor shops, and logistics units.
In the Hakurk Valley, the Goraspi base area is actively used by the TSK. 15 different shelter points have been identified in this area, which is referred to as Bradost.
THE ORGANIZATION'S LIFELINE
The 41 large and small camps in and around Mount Gara in the Amediye district of Duhok are seen as one of the organization's most strategic centers. This region, located just 30 kilometers from the Turkish border, is used as the main transit route for terrorist infiltrations.
In Gara, there are 4 underground armories, 2 secret prisons, centers where suicide bombers are trained, and so-called academies.
The Zap Valley, in the Claw-Lock Operation region, is the PKK's bomb and mine production center. There are 35 camps in the valley. These contain chemical laboratories, underground ammunition tunnels, and medicine and ammunition depots. It is reported that the tunnels reach up to 800 meters in length.
MIT AND PESHMERGA WILL COORDINATE THE SURRENDER OF WEAPONS
In the areas where the PKK will surrender, underground tunnels, secret ammunition, and shelter areas will be emptied in the presence of an observation committee jointly formed by the MIT and the KRG.
When the disarmament process is completed, the high-security TSK bases will continue their operations for a short time. Afterward, the bases and watchtowers will be handed over to Peshmerga forces.
The majority of Turkish soldiers will be relocated to strategic points along the Turkish border line.
