German President Steinmeier visits Anıtkabir

Arriving in Turkey for official contacts, Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Anıtkabir in the capital with his accompanying delegation and laid a wreath at the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Following a moment of silence, Steinmeier posed for a photograph and signed the Anıtkabir Special Book.

German President Steinmeier wrote the following in the book:

"It is a great honor for me, as President of Germany, to visit the Republic of Turkey and to pay my deep respects to the founder of this state, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. His vision for Europe laid the foundation for the 100-year-old deep friendship between Germany and the Republic of Turkey.

Our peoples feel a close bond, shaped by the many stories of courageous women and men who sought a better life or protection in each other's countries. Millions of people of Turkish origin enrich and shape my country today. This treasure of ties is the cornerstone for the further development of our relations."
