In a statement on his social media account, Gül said, "Manipulative posts and audio recordings claiming that a 'major earthquake is expected' are being circulated on social media platforms. Such rumors, which are not based on any scientific data, serve no purpose other than to cause panic among our citizens.
We ask our citizens not to give credence to such baseless posts and to follow the statements made or to be made by our AFAD Scientific Committee.
Efforts to identify those making these and similar baseless posts have been initiated, and criminal complaints will be filed against those responsible," he said.
