Hakan Fidan speaks with his US counterpart by phone
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The conversation emphasized determination regarding operations in Iraq and Syria.
Operations against terrorist targets continue following the attempted bomb attack on the Ministry of Interior in Ankara. Terrorist targets in Syria and Iraq are being destroyed one by one.
While operations in the region are ongoing, a critical meeting took place between Turkey and the US. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken by phone.
"STOP WORKING WITH THE YPG"
In a statement regarding the matter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Minister Fidan strongly brought to the attention of his counterpart Blinken that the US must stop working with the terrorist organization YPG."
'OPERATIONS WILL CONTINUE'
Minister Fidan emphasized that Turkey will continue its counter-terrorism operations in Iraq and Syria with determination.
EMPHASIS ON 'DECONFLICTION MECHANISM'
Pointing to the deconfliction mechanism, the Ministry stated, "An agreement was reached to operate the deconfliction mechanism effectively in a way that does not hinder our counter-terrorism efforts."
MINISTRY: ONE UAV WAS LOST
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the following statement regarding the loss of the UAV:
"Following the terrorist attack that took place on October 1, 2023, comprehensive operations were launched by our Armed Forces and Intelligence Organization against PKK/YPG terrorist targets in Iraq and Syria in line with our rights of self-defense.
In this context, numerous targets belonging to the separatist terrorist organization, primarily in the Tel Rifaat, Jazira, and Derik regions in northern Syria, were destroyed yesterday (October 5).
During the operation, one UAV was lost due to differing technical assessments within the deconfliction mechanism operated with third parties. Necessary measures are being taken with the relevant parties to ensure the more effective operation of the deconfliction mechanism.
The incident in question has in no way affected the execution of the ongoing operation or the striking of identified targets.
As has been done in Iraq, all capabilities and revenue sources developed by the terrorist organization in Syria will continue to be systematically destroyed."
STATEMENT ON THE UAV FROM THE PENTAGON
CNN Türk Washington Representative Yunus Paksoy conveyed the statement made by the Pentagon.
The Pentagon spokesperson said regarding the operation carried out by Turkey, "We will keep lines of communication open. The US stands with our NATO ally Turkey against the terrorist organization PKK. We will not question Turkey's fight against the PKK."
Paksoy used the following expressions regarding the remainder of the statement:
"The Pentagon summarized the incident as follows: The Turkish UAV came within 1 kilometer of US troops while they were in their bunkers, flew in an area declared restricted by the US, and then approached within 500 meters; it was shot down at 11:40 local time after getting this close. This decision to shoot was made as an act of self-defense. The Turks did not do it intentionally; it was a regrettable incident. Turkey is an important NATO ally."
