Former Chief of General Staff and Minister of National Defense, AKP Kayseri deputy Hulusi Akar, has filed a non-pecuniary damages lawsuit for 100 thousand liras against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, alleging that he "attacked his personal rights."
In the petition for the lawsuit filed by Akar's lawyer, Samet Can Olgaç, at the Ankara duty civil court of first instance, it was claimed that Akar shared his thoughts on education and training during a program, and that his speech was distorted by some segments and only a portion of it was circulated.
The petition stated that the remarks made by Özel on September 11 regarding Akar's speech contained elements of insult and could not be considered within the scope of criticism, and that they constituted severe defamation and slander.
The petition requested that Özel be ordered to pay 100 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages due to these statements.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Hulusi Akar had stated at an event he attended, "The purpose of education is not to acquire knowledge. The purpose of education is, first, the fear of God, and second, shame before others." Reacting to this statement, Özgür Özel had said, "We scratched Hulusi Akar like a scratch-off lottery ticket. A political Islamist emerged from underneath, nothing else."
