Lawyer for Oğuz Murat Aci speaks out: New developments regarding the extradition process of Eylem Tok and her son

In Eyüpsultan, on March 1, 2024, at approximately 23:50, a car driven by 17-year-old T.C. struck individuals attempting to repair an ATV that had broken down on the side of the road, and Oğuz Murat Aci lost his life in the accident.

'EXTRADITION PROCESS CONTINUES'

Stating that the extradition process regarding the matter is ongoing, lawyer Hacı Orhan noted that the grieving family is waiting for the extradition process with hope and made the following statements:

"The documents requested by the US Department of Justice have been completed. It is an investigation also being followed by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. We hope that the process will progress rapidly and the extradition procedures will be carried out. No further action has been taken regarding father Bülent Cihantimur following the travel ban. The grieving family is waiting with hope for the extradition of Eylem Tok and her son."

WHAT IS THE EYLEM TOK INCIDENT?

In Istanbul's Eyüpsultan district on March 1, a driver in a luxury SUV struck a group that had stopped in the emergency lane to check an ATV that had broken down, and then fled the scene. 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci lost his life in the accident, and 4 people were injured. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident turned out to be 17-year-old T.C., the son of author Eylem Tok and renowned aesthetic surgeon Op. Dr. Bülent Cihantimur.

Mother Eylem Tok, who arrived at the scene and picked up her son, fled abroad with him around 04:30 that night, escaping to Egypt. It was later revealed that Eylem Tok and her son had fled from there to the USA.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, who made a statement on the matter, said, "It was determined that T.C. and his mother went to Egypt by plane on March 2, 2024, at 03:50. Contact was made with Egyptian judicial authorities for their extradition to Turkey, the extradition process was initiated, and a red notice was requested for the suspects.

Upon notification by Egyptian Interpol that the individuals had departed Egypt in the direction of the USA, the temporary arrest request documents prepared for the purpose of extraditing the aforementioned persons from the USA to our country were transmitted to the competent US authorities both through diplomatic channels and via Interpol," he stated.

WHO IS EYLEM TOK?

Eylem Tok is one of Turkey's well-known authors, poets, screenwriters, and directors. Tok, who began writing poetry at a young age, later produced works in the genres of short stories, essays, and novels. With a unique style, Tok gained the appreciation of readers with the novels she wrote.

Works such as "Mihr," "Allah’ın Piyonları" (God's Pawns), "Noktalar" (Dots), and "Acı Şeker" (Bitter Sugar) appeared on Turkey's bestseller lists. Additionally, her children's books titled "Dev ve Üç Cüceler" (The Giant and the Three Dwarfs) and "Dev ile Üç Cüce" (The Giant and the Three Dwarfs) were also published in the UK, the USA, and Canada.

Tok, who directed and wrote the screenplay for the abstract art film "Sintiyatpera" in 2016, was a finalist in many film festivals in Turkey and internationally with this film. Eylem Tok brings her writings to readers through a publishing house named Sintiyapera.

Living in Istanbul, Tok is known as a figure who has made significant contributions to the worlds of literature and cinema.
