Martyred police officer Şeyda Yılmaz's husband learned of the incident over the police radio! "I felt as if boiling water had been poured over me"
Semih Yılmaz, the husband of police officer Şeyda Yılmaz who was martyred in Ümraniye, Istanbul, revealed that he learned of the attack through a radio announcement. Describing those moments, Semih Yılmaz said, "My fellow officer told me, 'Brother, one of those shot was your wife.'"
Condolence visits continue at the family home in Sivas of Şeyda Yılmaz, who was martyred during a scuffle that broke out when police were attempting to apprehend Yunus Emre Geçti—who had been detained at the Dudullu Police Station for motorcycle theft and was found to have 26 prior criminal records—after he escaped from the station and opened fire. Semih Yılmaz, a police officer and the husband of the martyred officer Şeyda Yılmaz, who has been receiving condolences, said he has been going through a difficult process since the day the incident occurred.

Expressing his deep sorrow, Yılmaz said, "We are at a loss for words. What I have experienced, and what we have experienced since I received the first news, is very difficult. The whole country has supported us by calling and sending messages. Everyone said they were praying and crying. May the nation endure."
"I FELT AS IF BOILING WATER HAD BEEN POURED OVER ME"
Stating that he was also on duty the day the incident occurred, Yılmaz said, "We were working the same shift. I left home at 17:15. If I remember correctly, around 22:00 or 23:30, I heard a radio call. When I heard 'A police officer at Dudullu Police Station has been wounded,' I immediately called my wife. She didn't answer, and I was very worried. I told my fellow officers there that I couldn't stay here, take me there. While we were on the way, my fellow officer said, 'Brother, one of those shot was your wife.' When that happened, I felt as if boiling water had been poured over me. I didn't know what to do."
Explaining that they went straight to the hospital after receiving the news, Semih Yılmaz said, "My other fellow officers were by my side at the hospital as well. Our chiefs came. We prayed a lot. She wanted to be a martyr very much. We had talked about it among ourselves a few times. 'Let me be the one first, then you,' we said. That's how I got the news..."

"I AM AS ANGRY AS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY"
Expressing his belief that the state will do what is necessary regarding the suspect, Yılmaz stated the following:
"That subject is a different dimension for me; I can't say much about it. I am as angry as the entire country. Perhaps there are many words to be said, but I have full faith that our state will do what is necessary. May no other Şeydas be martyred, may no other mothers, fathers, spouses, or children suffer. This is what I wish from our state. I request that more caution be exercised against these 'crime machines.' As I said, I have been burned; may no other families suffer this pain."
