Meat and Milk Board issues statement regarding meat found to contain salmonella

The Meat and Milk Board (ESK) has announced that a decision has been made to destroy meat that tested positive for salmonella, stating that it is out of the question for these products to be used in production or sold in any way.

In the statement issued by ESK, it was recalled that the institution procures live animals and carcass meat from abroad as part of its market regulation mandate.

Within the framework of food safety, the statement noted that samples are taken for inspection by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry upon the entry of imported meat into the country and that necessary analyses are performed in accredited laboratories. It was shared that microbiological analyses conducted on May 9 yielded results contrary to hygiene standards for one batch of products.

The following was recorded in the statement regarding the meat that tested positive for salmonella in the laboratory:

"The meat in question was rejected by our commission, and a formal warning was issued to the contractor slaughterhouse firm. In accordance with the firm's objections, the meat was frozen and placed under controlled storage in a trustee warehouse.

The objections raised were evaluated, and a decision was made to destroy the meat. The representative of the contractor firm is being awaited to complete the destruction process.

It is out of the question for the products in question to be used in production or sold in any way. High hygiene standards are applied in all processes of meat and live animal imports carried out under public assurance, and all necessary measures are taken to protect public health.

We request that reports aimed at undermining market regulation and spreading disinformation be disregarded."
