Mehmet Ağar responds to claims of kinship with Hafize Gaye Erkan
Reports brought to the agenda by journalist Erk Acarer, suggesting that the father of Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan is related to former Interior Minister Mehmet Ağar, had been widely discussed. Mehmet Ağar has issued a statement regarding these allegations.
Former Interior Minister and JİTEM case defendant Mehmet Ağar, who was alleged to be a relative of Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan, has made a statement regarding the matter.
Speaking to Patronlar Dünyası, Ağar denied the claim, stating, “We have no connection with them other than being from the same region (Elazığ).
If we had such a kinship, we would be proud of it.
Unfortunately, we have reached a point where we don't know how to respond to the lies on social media,” he said.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The claim that Mehmet Ağar is a relative of Hafize Gaye Erkan's father, Erol Erkan, was brought to the agenda yesterday by journalist Erk Acarer.
In a social media post regarding the subject, Acarer wrote, “Perhaps one should look at the allegations of giving orders to everyone and slapping people at the Central Bank from this perspective. Maybe it runs in the family. Code: Elazığ. Erol Erkan is the son of Mehmet Ağar’s aunt. I wonder if there is a Central Bank privilege for family members regarding loans?”
