Mehmet Metiner's commentary on the new 'opening' process: 'The PKK-DEM detail'

Addressing the group speech in which President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan conveyed his thanks to MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, who made an "Öcalan" overture, former AKP deputy and Yeni Şafak columnist Mehmet Metiner said, "This is a new process in which the ancient state wisdom is being updated. The underlining that the demands of the Kurds or demands related to Kurds will never be discussed by taking the PKK-DEM as an interlocutor forms the spirit of this new process."

Stating that Erdoğan put the final point with his speech at the AKP group meeting on Wednesday, October 30, Metiner assessed, "He presented a historical manifesto. He also showed the clear address for the solution. Our President expressed that he is behind the historical call made by Bahçeli. But he publicly announced that they do not see either Kandil or its party, DEM, as an interlocutor. Most importantly, he declared that they have no call and will have no call for Kandil, which uses the weapon in its hand to derive political results. He said, 'Our interlocutor is directly our Kurdish brothers.' Turning his face directly to his Kurdish brothers and making a historical speech, Erdoğan said, 'Hold tightly to the hand I extend to you'."

THERE WILL NOT BE AN OLD-STYLE 'SOLUTION PROCESS'

Interpreting Erdoğan's words as "He crumpled up and threw into the trash the negotiating and bargaining attitude that the Kandil-DEM front based on the understanding of 'necessity-compulsion'", Metiner wrote the following:

"He announced in clear language that the process will never be in the direction they foresee, that is, there will not be an old-style 'solution process'.

This was an expression that a new process based on ancient state wisdom has begun under the leadership of Erdoğan-Bahçeli and that the doors are open to everyone who wants to contribute to the process.

The doors were completely closed to the arrogance, threats, impositions, and most importantly, all pursuits aimed at deriving political results through the use of weapons, which were put forward on the axis of the 'necessity-compulsion' understanding.

The political doors that will ensure the solution of the problem if weapons are laid down unconditionally were left wide open. The process will continue as foreseen by the declared state wisdom.

The only condition is that weapons are laid down unconditionally and only politics is taken as the basis.

This is a new process.

A process that has only the Turkish wisdom at its center.

This is a process of activating a new political wisdom that aims to win over not only the Kurds of Turkey but also the Kurds of Syria and Iraq.

This is a new process in which the ancient state wisdom is being updated.

The underlining that the demands of the Kurds or demands related to Kurds will never be discussed by taking the PKK-DEM as an interlocutor forms the spirit of this new process.

This is the product of a very correct and accurate political wisdom."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, in his speech at his party's TBMM Group Meeting on October 22, said, "Today I will speak from the middle of the book in a way that leaves no need for any interpretation," and made a call regarding PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, stating, "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting in the TBMM, let him shout that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been disbanded. If he shows this fortitude and determination, let the legal regulation regarding the use of the right to hope be made and the way for him to benefit from it be opened wide. Let the address extend from Imrali to DEM, not Kandil or Edirne, and let this heavy and historical terror problem be completely removed from the country's agenda. I challenge you, we are ready for this. For the sake of the homeland, nation, state, flag, common future, and full independence, we are ready to endure even this to the end." While Bahçeli's words stirred the political lobbies, the question of "is a new solution process starting," which came to the agenda after shaking hands with DEM Party members at the opening of the new legislative year of the Parliament on October 1, began to be discussed more strongly.
