New regulation on unlicensed firearms!
As armed violence incidents increase in Turkey, AKP Group Deputy Chairman Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu announced that a study is being conducted regarding unlicensed firearms.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Deputy Ali Gökçek brought the issue of armed violence, which continues to rise in Turkey every day, to the Parliament's agenda. Questioning how a 17-year-old child in Istanbul could obtain an unlicensed firearm for 10 thousand liras, Gökçek drew attention to the leniency of the penalties for using unlicensed weapons.
According to the report in Gazete Duvar, Gökçek shared claims that the number of unlicensed firearms in Turkey has surpassed the number of licensed ones, stating, "We must make these penalties deterrent as soon as possible."
Speaking after Gökçek, AKP Group Deputy Chairman Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu stated that a comprehensive study is being conducted on this matter with the Ministry of Interior, using the following expressions: "I would like to inform the Parliament that a more detailed study is being carried out regarding unlicensed firearms, including their triggers, grips, firing pins, hammers, etc., and all unlicensed situations."
