'New York' call to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office: An investigation must be opened
Former prosecutor Bülent Yücetürk stated that the indictment against Eric Adams indicates that bribery acts also took place in Turkey, emphasizing that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office must initiate an investigation.
The repercussions of the bribery indictment prepared against New York Mayor Eric Adams continue. The names of several Turkish businesspeople are also mentioned in the indictment.
Speaking to Cumhuriyet, former Ankara Public Prosecutor Bülent Yücetürk said, "It is understood from the allegations that bribes were given to the mayor for certain licensing procedures during the construction of the Turkish House (Türkevi) that some of the bribery acts took place in Turkey."
Stating that according to Article 8/1 of the Turkish Penal Code, if an act that constitutes a crime is committed in whole or in part in Turkey, it is accepted that the act was committed in Turkey, Yücetürk made the following assessment:
THE PLACE WHERE THE ACT WAS PARTIALLY COMMITTED IS ISTANBUL
"The crime of bribery is not a crime subject to a complaint; it must be investigated on behalf of the public. Therefore, the place where the act was partially committed is Istanbul. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office must officially take action and initiate an investigation.

Furthermore, according to Article 10 of the Turkish Penal Code, public officials who commit crimes in a foreign country on behalf of Turkey are tried in Turkey as well, even if a case has been opened against them in the foreign country. Since it is very clearly understood from the indictment that some of these acts were committed in Turkey and some of the crimes in America were committed by Turkish officials located there, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office must officially take action on this matter and initiate an investigation.''
