Number of detainees in lawyer Serdar Öktem murder case rises to 6: Two of the suspects are under 18
The number of detainees in the investigation into the murder of lawyer Serdar Öktem, who was killed in an armed attack, has risen to 6.
A statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office provided details regarding the detentions and the assassination process.
Here is the statement regarding the Serdar Öktem murder:
Within the scope of the investigation conducted into the incident where an individual named Serdar Öktem passed away as a result of an armed attack carried out in the Zincirlikuyu neighborhood of the Şişli district of our province on 6/10/2025 (today);
In accordance with the crime scene, eyewitness testimonies, and camera footage identification efforts, a total of 6 (six) suspects have been apprehended, including 5 (five) suspects understood to have carried out the incident based on the tracking conducted by law enforcement, and one suspect determined to have assisted the perpetrators in fleeing after the incident. Two of the suspects are under the age of 18. The individuals who carried out the incident were apprehended in the vicinity of the Arnavutköy district, where they had fled after the event. During the search and screening activities conducted by security forces at the location where they were apprehended, the weapons used in the incident (a total of four weapons, including two Kalashnikovs and two pistols) and items such as ski masks and gloves were seized. Detailed examinations are continuing both at the crime scene and in the area where the weapons were seized. According to initial findings, it is assessed that the act was carried out as a result of a grudge held by an organized crime group against the victim. The investigation into the incident will continue to be deepened in all its dimensions by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Investigation Bureau, including the search for instigators and the determination of whether an organized crime group was used as a subcontractor in the incident.
