Operation 'Sekte' conducted in 7 provinces: 26 arrested
The Diyarbakır Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch launched an investigation into cyber fraudsters who trapped citizens by imitating the e-Devlet website and copying its interface. Teams identified individuals who defrauded people by sending links under the guise of 'secure payment' and demanding payments under the name of supposed loan fees.
Police teams discovered that the organized crime group was essentially hypnotizing users by creating websites that were nearly identical to the original, victimizing citizens through a method they called 'digital hypnosis.'
After determining that the criminal organization would later call victims from a call center to demand further payments under various pretexts for their digital robbery, the teams conducted cyber surveillance and tracked the gang online. Once the identities of the fraudsters were confirmed and their addresses located, the teams initiated technical surveillance and then launched the operation.
Simultaneous operation in 7 provinces
The teams carried out a simultaneous operation codenamed 'Sekte' against the organized crime group, based in Diyarbakır and spanning Istanbul, İzmir, Antalya, Mersin, Adana, and Hatay. During the searches, 32 mobile phones, 12 computers, 40 SIM cards, 18 bank cards, and a large amount of digital material were seized.
In the operation, 27 suspects were detained. Following their statements, the 27 suspects were referred to the courthouse, where 26 of them were arrested by the court and sent to prison.
