Övgün Ahmet Ercan says 'it is not the fault that destroys in an earthquake' and warns: 'Have it measured in an hour'

In his first statement following the earthquake that occurred in the Sea of Marmara and was also felt in Istanbul, he stated, "It is a normal release of tension. It does not bring the expected Istanbul earthquake forward. There is no problem."

Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan then used striking expressions in a subsequent statement.

Stating that it is not the fault that causes buildings to collapse in an earthquake, Ercan pointed to the power of the waves created by the tremor and the impact acceleration as the reason for the collapse of buildings.

Ercan wrote the following:

'What destroys in an earthquake is not the fracture (fault), but the power of the seismic waves passing under your structure and the impact acceleration. If the house's oscillation enters into sync with the wave's tremor (resonance), your house can collapse from excessive shaking. My suggestion is to have a geophysical engineer measure the resonance in 1 hour so you can have peace of mind.'
