President Erdoğan: As Turkey, we stand on the side of peace
AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan spoke at the “Iftar with Members of Parliament” program at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Erdoğan also touched upon the conflict between America and Iran, stating, "As Turkey, we stand on the side of peace."
Highlights from Erdoğan's remarks are as follows:
As the representatives of a noble and essential nation, you represent that belief today. You represent that passion. You represent that will. On behalf of myself, my country, and my nation, I thank each and every one of you individually.
"THE WORLD IS GOING THROUGH A CRITICAL PERIOD"
As members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, to whom we are grateful, you know very well that not only our region, not only the geography we are in, but the entire world is going through a critical period.
We are all experiencing, on a global scale, a shift in axis where international institutions and organizations are becoming ineffective, power balances are increasingly deteriorating, international agreements have practically turned into a patchwork, international law has been largely shelved, and the traditional understanding of diplomacy has been abandoned.
The world system established after World War II is, so to speak, cracking and shaking at its foundations. The world is heating up, or rather being heated, to the point of igniting with the smallest spark. Global injustice is deepening and becoming chronic with each passing day.
While the old order is collapsing, it is not yet fully known what will replace it. Our world is rapidly drifting toward a chaotic period where brute force and the law of the strong prevail. We are witnessing this once again in the process that began with the attacks on our neighbor, Iran.
Principles such as multilateralism, sovereign equality, and the resolution of disputes through diplomacy, which the United Nations system symbolizes, are unfortunately being ignored by those who established this system themselves; they have practically been turned into idols eaten during times of famine.
